Fax machines still considered a fact of life in Japan

In Japan, it's not uncommon to find a fax machine in active use in a business office. And, actually most Japanese people would prefer to use a fax machine to send and receive documents, rather than opening an email and viewing the attached .doc or .pdf file. In many Western companies that are seeking to go paperless, this would be considered a waste of precious resources, however in Japan, it's just a fact of life.
