explanation: Garden contiguous to Okayama castle. By the order of Lord Ikeda Tsunamasa, its construction began in 1686 and completed in 1700. Serving as a private space of the seigniors during Edo period, it has become public since 1884. Covering 13ha and owning ponds, tea houses, water falls and miniature hills, it is an outstanding representative of "trip around style" (Kaiyu-shiki) garden. Along with Kenrokuen and Kairakuen, it belongs to 3 famous Japanese gardens.
