I am looking for information regarding Hasekura Tsunenaga's voyage from Japan to Spain. I have some information that states he visited the Spanish fort at St. Augustine (Florida) prior to leaving the new world for Spain. Thank you!

Dear Garyhoog,
Hasekura Tsunenaga was the first Japanese who reached Europe to meet the Pope in the 17th century by passing through Pacific Ocean, Mexico and Atlantic Ocean. Though he passed through Havana in Cuba, none of Japanese sites mention his stop at St Augustine in Florida.
After he had returned back to Japan, he was confined in a secret place and all the documents about his travel was dispersed because Christianity became forbidden in Japan during his voyage.
Anyway, if you need more information about Hasekura Tsunenaga's travel, I recommend to contact the town of Osato where his memorial park is located.
best regards,
