The kanji of China, Japan, Korea and Vietnam have some things in common, but they also have many differences. It is kind of like English and French, if you try to read a French text you will see some words that are exactly the same as English (excellent-excellent), some words which are spelled a bit differently (bank-banque) and some words which are spelled very differently (money-monnaie) and some that are completely different (store-magasin). So, if a Chinese tries to read a Japanese text, he will see some kanji that are exactly the same, some that are a bit different, some that are very different and some completely different. Also, Japanese and Korean have created own writing systems which are used in addition to kanji. Vietnamese have completely abandonned kanji about 70 years ago.

What are the Japanese symbols for Dragon Boy and Dragon Girl? I wanted to surprise my fiance with some new tattoo designs for us and I decided that I wanted to add these names to it because those are our nicknames. We're both very fascinated with the Japanese culture and I was born in Okinawa, Japan (Military Brat), so I thought it was only fitting to get the names done in Japanese instead of just plain old English. Thanks! ^.^ |
