I'm not sure if these two characters are Japanese or not. To my limited knowledge, they look to be that way. I can't draw them out (I have poor artistic abilities) so I'll do my best to describe them. 1) The first character appears to be something similar to the # sign. Two vertical lines with two horizontal-ish lines crossing through them. 2) The second looks like the letter A, but with two lines instead of one. Both are near the top, and the lines carry through and extend through the inverted V part of the A. I know this might be a difficult question, and the characters might not even be Japanese, but I would appreciate any help that could be given. I want to get them on a tattoo, but I'd like to know what they might mean first. Thanks! | ||

Welcome to our Japanese forum, Raoul. Your description being a bit confusing, I recommend to stick a scanned image of the Japanese characters. "How to add scanned image" is explained in the help menu at the left frame. Click on the Documentation/Formatting then go to "Images, Attachments, and Clipart" section. Kind regards, | ||

the first is 井 (i="ee"), which means "a well". the second is probably 月 (gatu, getu), which means "moon" or "month". | ||

There are four groupings of two symbols, which each could be VIVACIOUS, with curvy symbols above them. The curvy symbols should be omitted for tattoo because it just tells the reading. | ||

Hello everyone. I got a tattoo long ago of what I was told was the Japanese symbol for ghost. Since then, I have seen so many different characters for ghost that I have no idea if my tattoo actually says ghost or not! The best way to describe my tattoo is that it looks like the number 47. Only, the "4" part has a line that comes off of the bottom in a upwards diagonal line towards the "7", and the "7" has a line off of the bottom in an upwards diagonal back towards the "4". Also, the "4" isn't pointy at the top, it's open. Sorry if my description is too hard to follow, but if someone could answer my question I would be extremely grateful! Are you talking about  This kanji has the principal meaning of "illusion", with a secondary meaning of "phantom". The western concept of *ghost* does not have a direct counterpart in Japanese. The closest would be 'yuurei', which is the spirit of a deceased person. | ||

This is what I'm trying to do- I'm designing a gate in a back yard and want to add two side by side japanese symbols. I want to say something positive and they have to be simple as I will carve them. Hi, this is my first posting, but I have been wanting a japanese kanji symbol tattooed onto me for a long time since I am half japanese. I have been trying to do research online looking for the kanji symbols for both Labrynth and Serendipity. But I haven't been able to find any.
