A friend sent me a funny video clip of two cats fighting. I'm trying to find out what's written on the bottom. Can you translate into English for me? If you'd like to try, let me know and I will email the clip to you. sylvia.carter@colaik.com |

Hi, Ive been learning Japanese (well Katakana so far) and I was wondering what my name would be. Its Stephen, because its got some consonants next to each other im not sure. This is what I worked out was the closest (im going to have to write it using english letters, as i havent got the japanese text enabled on my PC and dont know how to enable it) Shi - pe - n or shi - fu - n. Does anybody know if this is correct, or there is a better way as i would really like to know. Thankyou |

I would like to get the kanji symbol for nirvana written top to bottom. I found it (two separate symbols) written horizontaly. To get to vertical do I put the left or right symbol on top? I'm confused because the traditional reading is right to left. |

Dear Sir, There were never horizontal writing in traditional Chinese or Japanese language. What looks like horizontal is in reality a vertical writing with one character at each column. The modern horizontal writing (from left to right hand) was invented by Japanese when they were bothered by editing a Japanese/western language dictionary (I cannot remember which one). Vertically you should write Nirvana like: 涅 槃
