狡いよね I've seen this translated as "It is sly, don't you think?" Why is this? I know "zurui" means "it is sly," but what about "yo ne"? Thank you! | ||

"zurui yo ne" Yes, "it is sly, isn't it" is okay... However, in some contexts "zurui" can have the air of "unfair"... Also, "that's pretty sly/cunning/cheating/crafty/dishonest/slick/foul/unfair of you" would be fine... Do you have a context with it? Japanese is really hard to pull out-of-context... "yo-ne" is just what it it is... emphasis (yo) and slight request of agreement (ne)... Here's a good description of ね (ne) from my Microsoft Word XP日本語版の和英辞書: 1〈相手に念をおしたり同意を求めたり, 柔らかく質問したりする付加疑問〉 isn't it?； doesn't it?； don't you? 2〈軽く推測・主張をこめて相手の注意をひく〉I suppose； I should think； I dare say [《英国》 daresay]； you know； you see 3〈呼びかけたり注目をうながす〉 =ねえ 2. That's a pretty good description for when to use "ne"(^o^) Anyway, my gut instinct tells me that your ずるいよね (zurui yo ne) is probably on the side of "wow, that's pretty unfair", but, again, could you give a context?? l8r~~ | ||
