Okay... "I love you" is something not-often said in japan. The proper, literal translation would yeild 愛してる (ai shiteru)... But, like I said, not many people say that. What most people say is 大好き (daisuki), which means "i really like you". hope that answered your question. |

To ther person asking how to say I love you in Japanese, its acctually "Aishiteru" BTW: dai suki acctualli means realy like... "dai" meaning big/alot and "suki" meaning like or love...hope that helps^^ |

Well, even though you were late on pointing that out, 愛してる (Ai shiteru) is the direct translation (Lit. I am loving you), which could also be (more polite) 愛している (Ai shiteiru) or (even more polite) 愛しています (Ai shiteimasu) or (yet more polite) 愛しておる (Ai shiteoru) or (extremely polite) 愛しております (Ai shiteorimasu), however, 大好き (Dai suki) literally means "I really like you" or, more direct, "You are liked a lot" or something. While it is not a literal and direct translation from english, it is what Japanese-speakers would say where English-speakers would say "I love you." |

There are many way's to write Miki.... Your best bet is to just write it in hiragana, to show her you mean bizzneesss, and then ask her to show you HER kanji that her parents gave to her. |

Your friend is wrong. It's perfectly fine to say "daisuki" by its lonesome. Only problem with it is, it's very informal. Therefore, you should only usse it with your friends or people of lower status than you in society |

Matjlav
| Posted on Sunday, October 26, 2003 - 11:56 am: | |
Ursula - アースラ Eternity of Life - 生命の永遠 Kanji symbols are more advanced Japanese symbols which each express a certain meaning, and can have several different pronunciations. Hiragana is a substitute for kanji, and each hiragana symbol expresses a certain sound. Note that some words are only written in hiragana. Obviously, there is many more kanji than hiragana. For instance, "destiny" in kanji is: 運命 and its hiragana equivalent is: うんめい Hiragana should be used by beginners, as it is much easier to remember the pronunciations. どう致しまして! You're welcome!

I think it was in kanji, but not sure. If you know this symbol then could you arrange Timothy and Deserea on it. If you dont know this then could you kid Timothy and Deserea and post it. Thanks . |

Well, I want to know if my name is correct, because I really would like to learn how to speak Japanese and I already have a beginner's skill level in vocabulary. Another thing is what is the verb drill if I wanted to say "_ing"- Eg: Eating? |
Mr. Anonymous
| Posted on Monday, December 15, 2003 - 05:31 am: | |
There are a few ways to say the 'ing' form. Monkeys like eating bananas. saru ha banana wo taberu no ga suki desu. サルはバナナを食べるのが好きです。 I like swimming. watashi wa oyogu koto ga suki desu. 私は泳ぐことが好きです。 What are you eating? nani wo tabeteimasuka. 何を食べていますか。 Before eating, please wash your hands. taberu mae ni te wo arainasai. 食べる前に手を洗いなさい。 etc etc etc ------------------------------------------------- If you mean 'ing-form' by "to be eating", then it would be the 'te-form' + 'to be' (or 食べています) |
