Goku of Dragonball Z is actually ゴクウ, as in 孫悟空

Dorofi: ドロフィ

Merle: マール (that's the closest you can get, because "r" and "l" combined cannot be expressed in Japanese.

You can't really translate idiomatic meanings from one language to another. If you tried to just translate "free spirit" into Japanese, you'd end up with something like "no-cost ghost". Free spirit has a very idiomatic meaning, so you can't just translate it. There might be a very similar expression (in meaning) in Japanese, but I don't know it.

The same is slightly true with "of the sea", but it depends on exactly what you want it to mean. You can just say "の海" or "no umi" to mean "of the sea" literally, but without context I can't tell you exactly how to use it.

Thank you----I want to mean "I am of the sea", but I really don't want my tatoo to say "I am of the sea"....I want it to be understood that when you see the characters that mean"of the sea"...it realy means I am from the sea...do you know what I mean? just the words "of the sea" but when you see it, it means like-- ~~she is of the sea~~ aka on me"I am of the sea"~~Please help me figure this out some more
