Hi, I am working on a modification of the game Civilization III. I learned about 700 Kanji via a freeware program called Kanji Gold about 2 years ago. Unfortunately teaching myself all the kanjis via a flashcard program became too tedious..... :D I still love them! Could somebody give me the best kanji symbols for these words: (they are for empire "advisors", either of the two words will do) industry or domestic Technology or science foreign affairs or diplomacy trade or economy army or military and the final one is a bit strange souls or immortality

I forgot to add, if you could condense it down to just a single Kanji symbol each, it would be most useful, as they are going to be on a fairly small 50 x 50 pixel button. Thanks Reuben P.S. It is in late stages if you want to see what it is.... http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=60731 only go if you have high speed internet as it is graphic intensive. |

Civ 3... I like that game. One kanji is hard. I think you can fit 2 kanji in 50 x 50. Industry - 産業 Science - 科学 Diplomacy- 外交 Trade - 商業 Military - 軍 These are translations for "Industrious," "Scientific," "Commercial," "Militaristic," and "Expansionist," right? But the mod looks great. Hope it turns out good.

Hi Matjlav, They are actually going to be the buttons you push along the left side to get to various advisors. Thanks for the help, it looks like I used the WWWJDIC fairly correctly. I got a different Kanji for trade, 貿, and foreign, 外 , however, I wasn't sure if these Kanji alone meant what I was trying to portray. If anyone else could provide single Kanji for any of these, or perhaps something close in concept, I would be very happy. Cheers, Reuben

Sorry, but Matjlav is right. Most of these words cannot really be expressed in a single kanji.外 for example, if used by itself, could mean 'outside', 'outdoors', 'other', 'external', etc. You really need 外交 together for it to mean 'diplomacy'. |

I had another link in my research bookmarks, and it had this single kanji for foreign: http://hwr.nici.kun.nl/unipen/kanji/38/55.gif two single kanji's for industry http://hwr.nici.kun.nl/unipen/kanji/46/58.gif and http://hwr.nici.kun.nl/unipen/kanji/73/66.gif one single kanji for science http://hwr.nici.kun.nl/unipen/kanji/33/58.gif and two single Kanji for trade http://hwr.nici.kun.nl/unipen/kanji/48/4e.gif and http://hwr.nici.kun.nl/unipen/kanji/4b/47.gif Are these correct? Perhaps it is a different form of Kanji? If they are correct, anyone know which one is more geared towards a political definition? |

Well, they're not usually used alone, but I suppose they could work...
