Hi, I use WinXP and I have a problem with my IME. When I still had WinME, the imput method was simple: if I wanted to type か, I just had to type K and A, the IME did the rest. That's all. Since I got XP, my keyboard and IME won't do this: each key on my keyboard is assigned a hiragana... Is there a way I can come back to the earlier imput method? I just want to be able to phonetically type the hiragana. Thanks for your help. Laurent |

Dear Laurent, you should reinstall Japanese IME from control panel/regional setting by using Windows XP's CD-rom. I think IME of Windows ME and XP should be different versions. Kind regards, |

Thanks for your answer. However, the version of IME installed on my computer is the one that came on the XP CD. I only mentioned the WinMe version as a comparison. This version cannot be installed on a XP system anyway... I guess my problem comes from a bad configuration of my IME, but I really can't figure out what exactly causes this. Any other ideas? Thanks in advance. Laurent

I have a feeling that you need to reset your keyboard layout configuration. On your language bar (restored style), you will find "Keyboard." Yours might be set at Japanese Input System. Otherwise, go to Control Panel>Regional and Language Options>Languages tab>click Details>check Text Services and Input Languages. I actually don't remember what I did in the past (my XP hasn't crashed in more than two years), but there is a setting for English keyboard romaji input and Japanese keyboard layout input. Make sure you run Checkdisk and Defrag, just in case. |

やった! Thanks for you kelp, but I eventually found what the problem was... The only thing I had to do was to go in the IME properties dialog box, and change the "Input Method" from "Kana Imput" to "Romaji Input". That's all. Now I can type phonetically anything I want to type in Japanese and the IME converts it to kana. Thanks again. Laurent (aka 朗蘭)

This is not a problem but supposed to be so ! With KANA Input you activate the japanese keyboard (layout). When you take a look at a real japanese keyboard, then you can see right next to each letter a hiragana. There you have the layout. If you are curious and wanna take a look. Activate the IME Pad, select Soft Keyboard and select the Hiragana/Katakana JIS layout. There you are. Remembering this keyboard layout is a great thing. Imagine, you can actually double your typing speed as you don't need to hit two keys for one hiragana anymore. And it's a pain in the ass when you enter a long phrase but missed a vowel in between... it happens sooo often. I've seen a japanese using that layout once. Hell, he wrote the letters faster than I could read them. Quite like when you put your fingers on a key and watch the cursor running... It's worth a try. Try it |

Hi everyone! My Xp is driving me crazy. IME stopped working for me about a week ago, I uninstalled the japanese/chinese/korean capabilities in my system in the idea that reinstalling them would solve my problem with the Japanese IME, but now, everytime I try to reinstall these languages I get a message asking me for the Service Pack 1 Cd and a file called imjpinst.ini. I went to the download section in Microsoft and downloaded the japanese language pack and the Japanese IME (I'm using Word 2002) but even though I have both installed, Japanese doesn't appear on my language list (icon tray). Anybody has any idea of what's happening and what I could do? Thanks!!!! |

Never buy a mac! Macs have no language support and are made by an evil company named apple. they are more monopolistic than microsoft, they dont just make the os, they make the computer.. t3h 3vil! |
