Well, they exist several ways to say "happy new year" in Japanese. My preferred sentence is 新年おめでとう御座います You can also say briefly 謹賀新年 if you send an e-mail. Please note that the greetings should be pronounced when the new year has arrived. for it is not an wish but a happy day. |

Here is the Romaji pronunciation of "happy new year" in Japanese. 新年おめでとう御座います = shin nen omedetou gozaimasu or colloquially, おめでとう = amedetou 謹賀新年 = kinga shin nen (only in literal style Japanese) Please note that "happy new year" means: 1) in English We wish you a happy new year 2) in Japanese We are happy to see a new year arriving or literally, we are glad to assist in the opening of a new year (I mean we are still alive :-). So, never use those expressions before the first day of a new year.
