I found this piece of caricature in an obscure antique shop in Stewartville, MN. I was captivated by it. It appears to be a watercolor caricature of an American Sailor in Tokyo 1945. This watercolor was made only few months (Nov.) after the atomic bomb (Aug.). This would be an image that was made when the Americans occupied Japan. A dark piece of history. I would appreciate your help in clarification as to what the words might say and who the artist is as well. Here are the addresses to the image itself and the artist's signature: http://www.rit.edu/~exc5653/soldiercaricature.jpg http://www.rit.edu/~exc5653/artistsig.jpg |
