Well, it all depends on what genre you prefer. I recommend Akira and 3x3 Eyes. You should also ask at your local bookstores.

I recommend a manga called "Fake" by sanami matoh. It is a love story of these two detectives, by the name of Ryo and Dee. Dee has found Ryo attrative, but Ryo is not so sure. Ryo then gets confused and will have to admit to himself something he wishes not to admit.

I do not recommend "Fake" and I also highly advise that all normal and straight people should avoid this genre series. Its very icky.. Please be aware that it is a love story about two GUYS!... I advise you use search engines associating your favorite genre with manga..

Fake is an AMAZING manga, if you want to read it. The characters draw you in, the art is gorgeous, and YES, it IS shonen-ai, but honestly, unless you're some dumbass homophobe (which is so NOT cool!), you shouldn't care. See? I'M straight, and in LOVE with Fake!

Another simply mindblowing manga was X-Day. Short, angsty, and true to the heart. Wonderful.

I agree with me (ahem...as in the nickname) that Shaman King and Naruto are good. I shall give a short description of some that I really love reading and would definitely recommend:

- Naruto
Concept: Ninja
Story: 12 yrs ago, Kyubi (nine-tailed fox) almost destroyed a village, but was later subdued by the 4th Hokage and sealed into a newborn baby. The baby (Naruto) grew up to be despised due to Kyubi, and he aimed to become the next Hokage. His journey as a ninja and towards recognition starts 12 years after Kyubi was sealed.

- Shaman King
Concept: Shamans
Story: Yoh (12 yrs old?), born into the Asakura family of shamans, is a lazy bum who only wants to be the King of Shamans. The shaman fight to choose the king takes place every 500(?) years. Together with friends like Manta, Bokutou no Ryuu, Horo Horo, Faust and Chocolove, he embarks on his shaman dream.

- Hikaru No Go
Concept: Go (something like chess)
Story: Hikaru (12 yrs old) was rummaging his grandfather's attic with his friend when he spotted a Go set. He could see dried blood on it while his friend didn't find anything wrong with it. Later on, a friendship blossomed between him and a spirit trapped within the set, and Hikaru starts playing Go.

- Fruits Basket
Concept: Juunishi (the 12 zodiacs)
Story: Honda Tohru's (15 yrs old?) parents had passed away, and she came to live in a tent near her classmate's (Sohma Yuki) home. She stumbled upon his home one day, and found out the dark secret to the Sohma family. Certain members of the Sohma family had each been cursed with an animal of the zodiac. When hugged by a female non-juunishi or when they feel ill, they transform into the particular zodiac animal with which they were cursed. Tohru's relationship with these juunishi start to develop.

Hmm...think I've typed more than enough...
